Jens Debacker
Biography
Jens Debacker (MD, PhD) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel Molecular Imaging and Therapy (MITH) research group. He obtained his medical degree in 2018 at Ghent University before starting a PhD at the same university's head and neck surgery research group. During his PhD, he performed research on the potential role of implementing nuclear medicine in head and neck cancer surgery and radiotherapy. During this research, he focused on characterizing the heterogeneous uptake of radiopharmaceuticals in human malignancies, which drove his interest in fundamental radiobiology. After obtaining his PhD in Medical Sciences in 2022, he joined MITH, focusing on translational nuclear medicine to improve oncological patient care. Specifically, he focuses on identifying the underlying mechanisms of radio(nuclide) therapy to improve current and design new (combinational) therapies, with a focus on malignancies of the head and neck.
